My previous post discussed how since coming back from Europe, an odd hobby I have picked up is listening and calling in to conservative radio talk shows. One of my impressions was how remarkably easy it is to get in and be heard by thousands if not millions of listeners. I finished my post reflecting on how the ultimate stage would be with Papa Bear himself, Bill O'Reilly.
Now as folks probably know, I lean left, but I still listen to the O'Reilly Radio Factor every morning on my commute to work. While I often disagree with him, as I've said before I find him oddly appealing and believe that he is oftentimes fair, and that he does provide insightful commentary. I really enjoyed his most recent interview with Obama.
Today, he was discussing Sarah Palin and how the liberal "secular progressives" hate her because of her culture and that she stands for traditional American values. I don't really agree; I am more concerned that this person, whose most creative response to the question of how she has international experience was that you can see Russia from Alaska, may potentially be in charge of the Free World.
So, for the first time ever I tried to call into O'Reilly, and I actually got in. One thing I've learned from callers is that arguing with the host is essentially useless. You'll have your mic turned off while you look dumb. Beyond that, though, I don't think it's very constructive as it just produces more pointless yelling in politics, so I choose to typically opt for a question.
